Some 5,500 job seekers have registered with Jobs Perak Portal under the Amanjaya Talents Centre (PEKA) which aims to get them employed and help the state government achieve zero unemployment rate.

Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir 2,000 of those registered have been able to secure jobs at both government and private agencies.

“The implementation of the Jobs Perak Portal is another effort by the state government to optimise the functions of PEKA in helping the jobless get employment,” he said.

Dr Zambry said this in his reply to a question by Ayer Kuning Assemblyman Datuk Shamsuddin Abu Hassan at the 12th State Assembly’s 3rd day sitting in Ipoh

He said PEKA operates by matching the employment needs of private companies and government agencies with job seekers who have the right skills and interest to fit in.

The Chief Minister who is also Pangkor Assemblyman said through PEKA’s role, jobless graduates who used to look no further than government jobs, are now able to get work placement in private sectors.

“Prior to this, most graduates from government universities had only wanted government jobs but through PEKA, they have started to realise that working with private sectors is also a lucrative move,” he said.

Dr Zambry said apart from the portal, the inception of Ronda Jobs Perak which is a mobile unit, is another initiative by the state government to reach out to job seekers all over the state.

Since it was started on October, the Ronda squad have made their rounds in Taiping, Tanjung Malim,Gopeng and Manjung, he said.

“The Ronda squad is also cooperating with government and Non Governmental Agencies including participation in field programs that are organised by Wakil Rakyat.

“This way, job seekers in every area can be reached and given the necessary help,” Dr Zambry added.

In his answer to Opposition’s Sungkai Assemblyman A.Sivanesan, Dr Zambry said the employment number in the state stands at 29,000 which is a 3.2% rate.
